| Welcome to the inaugural column of “TouchPoints,” a personal voice to express how the FWA transforms our lives by connecting us with a network of extraordinary professionals and enduring friends. Along with the FWA’s 52-year history and powerhouse 100+ events each year, this network of friendships differentiates us as an organization that continues to flourish and touch the many facets of our personal and professional lives By bringing us together to learn from one another and to share our universal experiences, the FWA enriches our world. Speaking for myself, I joined the FWA twenty years ago. Organizationally, I have served on the Board of Directors numerous times, co-chairing the Washington, DC Briefing and International Trip committees and helping to launch the Financial Backpack Initiative with Working Mother magazine.Professionally, the FWA has enhanced my skills and stretched my horizons. However, it is the personal friendships that have carried me through the darkest moments of my life. When my husband Tommy died suddenly five years ago, my FWA friends reached out to me with warm hands and hearts – not only for a week or month – but for more than a year. Without all of you I would not have regained my voice and been able to laugh again as I can today. On a lighter note, in this year alone, my FWA friendships have taken me from the Iowa caucuses with Mina Baker Knoll to concerts in Central Park to the Great White Way where a group of us, including the DC-based Cecelia Beirne, enjoy dinner and theater several times a year. Kristin McDonough tells me that it was my recent catch-up over coffee with Lynthia Romney that planted the seed for this newsletter feature. What a fantastic group of women we are! And how we give back! FWA members apply their skills and talents around the globe in both the workplace and as tireless volunteers for the FWA as event planners, financial literacy educators, fund raisers, mentors, and scholarship granters. For the lasting camaraderie, outstanding professional development, and heartening support I’ve enjoyed these past years, I am eager to engage other women in our exceptional organization. According to Buddha (563-483 BC) “Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart – give yourself to it.” To me, it’s this spirit of generosity that is the essence of the FWA. I invite each of you to share in its wealth and to extend it heartily to others! Many thanks to all of you and to the FWA! Eunice SaltonCreative Marketing Solutions, Inc.
