LinkedIn 101

Nearly 80 FWA members and guests gathered at this sold-out event co-sponsored by the Entrepreneurs Committee and the Career Connections Committee to hear career coach Sarah Stamboulie, head of Stamboulie Career Consulting, teach us how to leverage the LinkedIn professional networking site for business development, job hunting and research.

Sarah Stamboulie

Before convening to learn about the latest way to network on line, enthusiastic participants met and mingled to renew acquaintances and make new connections the old-fashioned way -- in person!

Stamboulie’s program included a live demonstration, shown on two large projection screens, of LinkedIn features including how to set up a profile and initiating and accepting invitations.  She explained how to build a network of primary contacts and how to discover and access a broader network; her own 304 first-degree connections yield over 2 million third-degree contacts!    Stamboulie’s engaging, informal style encouraged questions and produced a highly interactive session.  Her key tips for getting noticed on LinkedIn included:

Create a compelling profile.
Join groups.
Obtain recommendations.
Answer questions.

It was clear LinkedIn is a powerful tool for all professionals, whether prospecting for business growth or job leads.  Stamboulie gave current users great tips for making LinkedIn work for them and the newbies confidence to dive in and get started.  There was more to discover than time allowed, and we’re hoping to offer a follow up sometime next year.  It’s great to be LinkedIn!
