Exciting Volunteer Opportunity to Work with High School Students

An understanding of the ABC’s of money and how to manage it is a skill every person needs, and getting that knowledge early in life can make a huge difference. Not a subject covered in the normal school day, supplemental financial literacy needs to be brought to young people in another way. Would you like to help? The FWA has a fun and exciting one-day volunteer opportunity for you!
The FWA Financial Backpack Committee develops and delivers financial literacy programs for high school students. The HSBC Foundation has given the FWA a generous grant of $900,000 to fund a robust and expanded five-year program for Financial Backpack. The Committee is busy gearing up for the another offering in its first year of this exciting program and is now seeking volunteers to assist at its spring seminars, which will be held on two weekends in the spring; Sunday April 26th and Saturday May 9th. Advance training for these seminars, which is required, will be held on April 20th for the April 26th seminar, and April 30th for the May 9th seminar.
Volunteers will be part of a teaching team which will include a NYC high school teacher and a Baruch college student. They will be assigned to classrooms of 20 students– primarily juniors and seniors who are participants in the Virtual Enterprise Program. Virtual Enterprise teaches students how to run businesses and how to be good employees by working in teams to run simulated businesses.
Volunteers are also needed for both Workshops to help out with workshop management that will include student signup, giveaway distribution and other coordination tasks.
Note: You don’t need to volunteer for both sessions but do need to attend training if you volunteer to teach for any session for which you register.
