The Sovereign Wealth Fund Phenomenon

The Emerging Issues Committee and Latham & Watkins’ women's initiative, WEB (Women Enriching Business) hosted a sterling panel assessment of the sovereign wealth fund phenomenon and the current landscape for these large liquidity pools.  Moderated by M. Adel Aslani-Far, a corporate partner in the New York office of Latham & Watkins, the panelists explored the rapid growth in funds in China, Norway, the Middle East and Singapore, existing constraints around investments, and recent changes in the flows of capital given today’s market volatility.  Panelists included Matthew Higgins, Vice President, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Christopher Messina, Managing Director at Mannahatta Partners, LLC, and Brad Setser, Fellow for Geoeconomics, Council on Foreign Relations.
