Association of Financial Women of Québec (AFFQ) and the FWA

Through relationships with international professional women's organizations, the FWA is creating new opportunities for members to expand their business connections across the U.S and around the world.  The network of FWA connections reaches across borders, above all across the US-Canadian border.  There are close ties between the Association of Financial Women of Québec (AFFQ), an organization that started in 2002 as an initiative between Québec and the FWA of New York.  Now independent, the AFFQ is fast growing, with a membership that includes many leaders in the financial community in Montreal and the province of Québec.

A delegation of AFFQ leaders spent several days in New York at the end of April.  As in a previous year, the visit centered around our Annual Dinner, at which the members took a table and enjoyed the full panoply of networking opportunities at this event.  They also met with FWA of New York leadership for tea one day, then participated in a working lunch another day where proposals to discuss strengthening our alliance were aired. The exchange of information was, as always, a two way street.  The FWA of New York learned about the Canadian project promoting women on corporate boards through the Women in the Lead directory and their other initiatives in this area.  This information will make the FWA’s participation in the upcoming InterOrganizational Network (ION) meeting even more beneficial to that network.

Keeping the lines of communication open, we’re looking forward to biennial conference calls among them, us, and our other “daughter” networks in Boston and Chicago.
